Large employers in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the UAE — banks, telecoms, multinationals, and increasingly mid-size companies — run applications through an ATS (Applicant Tracking System) that scans, scores and filters CVs automatically. How ATS screening actually works

The ATS converts your file to plain text, looks for sections it recognizes (experience, education, skills), and matches keywords from the job description. It then ranks candidates; recruiters often only open the top 20–30. Three things break this process most often:

The format that passes

  1. Single column, standard fonts (11–12pt), clear section headers.
  2. Reverse-chronological experience with measurable results ("raised sales 30%", not "responsible for sales").
  3. A skills section that mirrors the job posting's exact wording — that's the keyword match.
  4. Contact info in the body (not the page header/footer, which some parsers skip).
  5. For the Gulf: add nationality, location and notice period — recruiters there filter on them.

Arabic CVs and bilingual applications

For government and many local Egyptian and Saudi employers, an Arabic CV is expected; for multinationals, English. The safest play for serious applications is a matched pair — same content, both languages — so whichever language the screening team works in, you're readable.
